New Connections Support Group |
|
NAMI Connection: Peer Support Group Program is a 90-minute support group run by persons who live with mental illness for other persons who live with mental illness. The program includes NAMI-trained peer facilitators and employs principles of support designed to empower its members. This program focuses on allowing all participants to share their experiences and learn from each other in a safe and confidential environment. NAMI Connection is not illness-specific, and welcomes persons with all psychiatric diagnoses. Mondays in Severna Park. See the Calendar for time and place. |

Peer to Peer Recovery Class |
|
NAMI’s Recovery Curriculum is a free course consisting of nine two-hour classes and is taught by a team of trained mentors who are experienced at living well with mental illness. It is for persons with serious mental illnesses who are interested in establishing and maintaining their wellness and recovery. It includes education on individual empowerment, family and peer support, relapse prevention, communication skills, and enhancement of personal activity and functioning. Mentors attend a weekend-long training session, are supplied with teaching manuals, and are paid a stipend for each course that they teach. A new class will start in the fall. |

NAMI Family Support Groups are for relatives, caregivers, and others involved with individuals with mental illness. Support groups provide a caring atmosphere for individuals to share their common experiences and assist individuals in developing the skills for understanding and the strengths needed to cope. | Bipolar/Schizophrenia Research Study |
Do you or a family member have Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder or Bipolar Disorder? At any one time, 51 million people worldwide suffer from schizophrenia and 132 million people worldwide suffer from bipolar disorder. You can help! If you are between the ages of 15-65 years old, you and your family members may be eligible to participate in a research study aiming to identify genes that are related to the cause of these illnesses. Please call The Maryland Psychiatric Research Center at 410-402-6823. Transportation can be provided if needed. You will be compensated for your time. |

In Our Own Voice |

In Our Own Voice: Living with Mental Illness is an informational, outreach program on recovery, presented by trained persons who live with mental illness to professional and lay groups in the community and in institutions. The goal is to educate the general public and change the attitudes and stigma of mental illness by giving a face to mental illness. |
