State of the Art: Public Mental Health in Oregon, Past, Present & Future

Past
A Short History of the Public Mental Health System in Oregon, Bob Nikkel MSW, February 2000
Legislative Training on the Public Mental Health System, Bob Nikkel MSW, January 2003

Present
Statewide Progress
Evidence-based treatment and prevention practices are the programs and methods that scientific research has proven to be effective. The Oregon Legislature directed the Oregon Department of Human Services and four other state agencies to spend increasing shares of public dollars on evidence-based services, culminating in 75 percent by the 2009-11 budget period. Operationally, for public mental health and addictions services, this means a variety of program enhancements within Oregon’s Community Mental Health Programs (CMHPs) at the county and regional levels. To review the current evidence-based practices in your community, click on the appropriate area of the map.
