In 2006, Foodmobile celebrated its 35th anniversary of delivering kosher meals to homebound seniors and, since 1998, younger disabled homebound adults. Foodmobile is vital in enabling clients to remain in their own homes and retain their independence. But Foodmobile does more than just deliver meals, our trained and dedicated volunteers also provide compassionate human contact on a daily basis. This may be the only contact some clients have through the course of the day--a kindly word, monitoring their safety, and even delivering pet food, if requested. This is a great community program! During 2005-6, Foodmobile delivered over 26,000 meals and served over 270 seniors and younger disabled adults.
--Foodmobile Expands Services--
This summer clients of Foodmobile, the only kosher home-delivered meal service in San Diego, will have the opportunity to request a second ‘light’ meal in addition to the hot kosher meal delivered daily by caring volunteers. The second meal will consist of a sandwich, fruit or salad (potato, pasta, etc.) and juice. This additional meal will benefit the many Foodmobile clients who are unable to leave home to shop for food or prepare meals.
Foodmobile has been delivering kosher meals to homebound older adults since 1971 and younger homebound adults since 1998. All food is Kosher, and adheres to higher preparation standards. Meals are non-dairy, which makes them ideal for individuals who are lactose intolerant. The Foodmobile kitchen prepares approximately 250 meals per day for home delivery and JFS senior center dining programs. Every meal is prepared fresh each day, giving food the quality and flavor of a home-cooked meal.
Foodmobile serves most areas in San Diego County, Monday through Friday, with frozen meals available for the weekends. Meals are delivered by caring volunteers, who deliver each hot meal with a warm smile. For additional information about the Foodmobile program, contact Rosann Place at (619) 229-2390
