To empower persons with mental health or substance abuse issues to play an active role as advocates, educators and service providers; to engage the community in transformation to services and support that provide community inclusion and healing through a wellness recovery, consumer-driven, culturally competent approach.
CNMHC SECTION 1. MISSION STATEMENT
The purpose of the California Network of Mental Health Clients is to support and encourage mental health clients to live at the highest level possible while enjoying full civil and human rights.
SECTION 2. OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSES
The primary objectives and purposes of this corporation shall be:

a) to empower clients of the mental health system through self-help groups and networking statewide;

b) to confront stigmatizing attitudes about mental health clients in the public, the media, the mental health system, and within mental health clients themselves;

c) to provide a strong voice of, by and for mental health clients, to be heard on all issues concerning clients and public policies affecting them in the government, the media and the community;

d) to promote and instill the rights of clients in and out of treatment situations, with special attention to the right of freedom of choice;

e) to promote employment of persons who have received mental health services in a range and variety of careers of their choices, including the public mental health system.

f) Other : All other activities and programming relating to mental health client empowerment and our vision or mission.

Position Statement
1.Education to dispel stereotypes in community settings such as schools, businesses, law enforcement, media, mental health and human service systems.
2.Advocacy by and for mental health clients/survivors at state, regional and local levels to promote choice, self-determination and quality services.
3.Trainings by clients/survivors for inpatient staff on eliminating the use of restraints and seclusion.
4.Promotion of meaningful, equitable job training, employment and retention of clients/survivors in mental health, self-help and peer support.
5.Outreach, engagement, training and technical assistance to promote essential involvement of clients/survivors in the Mental Health Services Act.
